Tools
You’ll need an air fryer to make this recipe. Here are the two that I recommend
- Basket style (Phillips 7 QT, 1725W) – easier to flip food but cooks a smaller amount (2-3 servings).
- Convection oven-style (Instant Pot 20 QT, 1800W) – This one takes more space but can bake, broil, toast, warm, dehydrate, and even has a rotisserie feature. Holds more food – perfect for families of 4 or more.
TIPS
- Chop the sweet potatoes the same size for even cooking.
- No overcrowding – Always arrange food in a single layer and cook in batches if needed.
- Toss or flip the food halfway during cooking to make sure the food is cooked evenly.

Sweet potatoes with red or orange skin are the best since they are sweeter and don’t dry up while cooking. My favorites are Red Garnet and Jewel varieties – you’ll find them easily in your grocery store.
No, you do not. Since sweet potatoes contain less starch than white potatoes, you can add them directly to the air fryer and get great results.
Yes, you can. Simply cube your sweet potatoes, add them to a large bowl, and cover them with cool water. Cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until needed or for up to 3 days.
Sweet potatoes do not need to be peeled, but many prefer them. Peeling them reduces prep work since you will not have to scrub the skin before cooking.
Yes, but you will have to increase the cooking time by 7-10 minutes to ensure they cook through.
Rinse your sweet potatoes under cool water, and scrub them gently with a vegetable brush or a rough kitchen towel until the water rinses clean. Pat dry with a paper towel or a clean kitchen towel to remove excess water.
There are many healthy ways to eat sweet potatoes. Baking, steaming, and air frying are a few popular and healthy ways to prepare them without adding excess fats or oils, keeping them low in calories.
